Sustainability

We care about our community and our environment! Our Hotel and Organic Farm are committed to sustainability and we have been recognized for our many green initiatives. We strive for the best eco-practices in our daily operations which include:

 

  • Our organic farm is located on a 15-acre remnant of the Crofton family’s original 100-acre farm; 2.5 acres are under cultivation at this time.
  • Over 70 varieties of produce from our farm are sold through our farm stand.
  • We have 8 bee hives that produce 150 lbs of honey annually; they also act as pollinators on the farm.
  • We have approximately 100 Bigleaf maple trees that produce over 1,000 litres of sap each year.  
  • We raise our own lamb and eggs.
  • Our friendly pet goats are called Carley, Lilly, Lucas and Yo-yo and they are our own brush cutters on the part of the farm that is not under cultivation.
  • Our Greenhouses are consider “cool houses” and are not heated except under extreme weather conditions i.e. -5 or colder.
  • Sustainable irrigation system on the farm.
  • Our artisan handcrafted baked goods are baked fresh each morning and sold on our farm stand.
  • The hotel and farm are 100% non-smoking.
  • In-room amenities include Salt Spring Soapworks’ natural products and organic tea and coffee.
  • We have Solar panels on the roof of the hotel to help heat the domestic hot water.
  • Eco-friendly cleaning and paper products.
  • Composting on-site.
  • A recycling system is in place for all our operations.
